Murphy Brown (Candice Bergen) puts investigative journalism in the dunk tank. That’s not right, but it’s fun to watch. On the plus side, Murphy is a smart, caring, middle-aged reporter. She’s raising a child as an unmarried, working woman. On the other side, she’s selfish, stubborn and extremely hot-tempered. Add Murphy to an ego-infused newsroom with co-reporters Corky Sherwood (Faith Ford), Frank Fontana (Joe Regalbuto), Jim Dial (Charles Kimbrough) the highly competent reporter who’s incompetent in life, Miles Silverberg (Grant Shaud) and it’s combustible.
Outbursts, anger, family, financial crises, and personality flaws you can drive a satellite truck through. Keep telling yourself, it’s not really the news – but in the 80s, it’s close.
